Lionsgate is officially taking over development of the Monopoly movie.
The news arrives after Lionsgate purchased Entertainment One (eOne) from Hasbro for $500 million USD and named the famed 1935 board game as one of the titles they will put into production. “This sale fully aligns with our strategy, and we are pleased to bring the process to a successful close,” Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks said in a statement. “Lionsgate’s management team is experienced in entertainment and adept at driving value, and we’re glad to have found such a good home for our eOne film and TV business. We look forward to partnering with them, especially on a movie adaptation of Monopoly.”
News on a Monopoly movie has been circulating for quite a while now, with several high-profile names such as Kevin Hart and Ridley Scott previously attached.
