After an emotional farewell to his lifelong club Barcelona recently, Lionel Messi has now officially signed a contract with Paris Saint-Germain. Following speculation and negotiations — in which PSG quickly emerged as the only likely destination — the news was announced through a video posted on PSG’s Instagram.
While the video does not show Messi, and the caption hints at a more formal reveal to come, it features his Ballon d’Or trophies in front of the Eiffel Tower, and a vacant dressing room seat between Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé.
According to reports, Messi has signed a two year contract with the option of a third year. Over the course of the deal, the Argentinian player will be earning around $35 million USD a season, substantially lower than than his earnings at Barcelona. PSG have announced a press conference on Wednesday August 11, where Messi will be officially presented to the world as their player.
