Kevin Parker’s Tame Impala also snagged top spot on the national chart this year with The Slow Rush (Modular Recordings / Island Records Australia/Universal Music Australia), his psychedelic-pop outfit’s fourth LP.

It’s the highest-selling homegrown album in 2020 so far, and its up seven ARIAs, including album of the year.

Zambian-born, Botswana-raised, Melbourne-based hip-hop artist Sampa The Great is in the running for six ARIAs for her debut album, The Return (Ninja Tune / Inertia Music).

Sampa is already a multiple award winner in her adopted homeland. She’s the only two-time winner of the Australian Music Prize (including victory for The Return), and last year she became the first woman of color to win an ARIA Award in the best hip-hop release category, for “Final Form.”

Winners at the 34th ARIA Awards will be announced Nov. 25 during a ceremony at The Star, Sydney to be broadcast around Australia on the Nine Network, and around the globe on YouTube.

“It’s been a year we will never forget. Our industry has taken a hit, but the creativity of our local artists has not,” comments Dan Rosen, outgoing CEO of ARIA.

“Our artists have shown great resilience and their music has helped many Australians get through these tough times.  I congratulate each of this year’s ARIA Nominees, who make up a remarkable list of Australian artists who have made a difference this year. I also want to congratulate all the Fine Arts and Artisan and nominees. The music industry is a team effort, and their role is vital in making our music industry robust.”

Also, there’s five nominations for breakthrough Indigenous artist Miiesha and Britpop revivalists DMA’s, and four for Brisbane rockers Violent Soho and for 2018 ARIA Awards breakthrough artist award winner Ruel.

There are multiple chances for pointed trophies for Amy Shark, Archie Roach, Jessica Mauboy, The Teskey Brothers, Tones and I, Troye Sivan, Cold Chisel, The Kid LAROI, Baker Boy and more.

Nominations were announced Tuesday morning at the Season Launch, which can be streamed at youtube.com.au/aria.
