Lil Wayne briefly addressed his feelings of losing out to Kendrick Lamar as the headliner for the upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show in February 2025.
During his recent Lil WeezyAna Fest, the artist did not mince his words and fully expressed his disappointment in not being selected to perform in his hometown. He shared the story of getting a suite for his friends and family during the year the New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl, continuing, “That moment I said to myself, ‘I wanna be on stage for the Super Bowl, one day, in front of my mom.’ And I worked my ass off to get that f*cking position, and it was ripped away from me.”
“But this motherf*cking moment right here,” he added as the crowd cheered, “they can’t take that, man. They can’t take that from me.”
“I told myself I wanna be on stage at the Super Bowl in front of my mom and I worked my a** off to get that position,” he told the crowd. “It was ripped away from me but this moment right here… they can’t take this away from me.”
While Weezy doesn’t seem to hold any grudges against Dot himself, this isn’t the first time he’s spoken up about the snub. In mid September, he took to Instagram to post a heartfelt conversation to his fans about the Halftime Show, “Forgive me for the delay. I had to get strength enough to do this without breaking. Thank you to every voice, every opinion, all the love and support out there. Your words turned into arms and held me up when I tried to fall back.” He continued, “That hurt a lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. For just automatically mentally putting myself in that position, like someone told me that was my position.”
He added, “I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, and that platform in my city. It broke me. I’m just trying to put me back together. But, my God, how you all have helped me.”
