Following his nominations snub at the 2022 BET Awards, Lil Nas X took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the matter.
The “Industry Baby” rapper received zero nominations this year and publicly expressed his disappointment. In a now-deleted thread he wrote, “I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top, mfs try to pretend we are invisible.” He posted a video on Twitter and discussed how three of his songs from his Grammy-nominated debut album Montero were on the Billboard’s Top 10 list claiming, “Look at how I top shit. I just put like three up in the top 10.”
In the past, Lil Nas X has performed on the BET Awards stage in 2019 and 2021. In 2021, he took the stage and made out with a male backup dancer at the show. The move sparked outrage from a portion of the audience, leading the artist to defend himself from social media critics. The preview snippet of his BET call out song was a message that addressed “the bigger problem of homophobia in the Black community.” The track, titled “Late to Da Party” features NBA Youngboy and fans can hear Lil Nas X singing, “F**k BET, f**k BET” on repeat.
