Lil Nas X Opens Up in HBO’s ‘Long Live Montero’ Documentary

Lil Nas X Opens Up in HBO's 'Long Live Montero' Documentary

Lil Nas X is showing another side of himself in a new documentary from HBO about his life and career. While many know the artist for his show-stopping performances, as for his provocative PR stunts, Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero will see him open up about his mental health, sexuality and his relationship with his family.

A trailer for the documentary begins with Nas X simply waking up in bed at home before cutting to him walking on the beach, hitting the recording studio and amping himself up before a live performance.

“When I was a kid, my sexuality was just this elephant in the room. I started getting bad anxiety attacks,” he says in a voiceover. “Coming out was very important to progress.”

The documentary looks back to the release of Nas X’s breakout hit, 2018’s “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. Amid his rapid rise to fame, he’s left grappling with his relationship with his family, describing that it’s difficult to be totally himself around them.

“So many people are making these huge strides, but it’s a fight,” he notes.

The documentary will also hold a lens up to the making of his self-titled album, Montero, and his global tour for the LP.

Watch the trailer for HBO’s Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero. The documentary is out for streaming on January 27.
