Leica has unveiled a new ” special-edition Leica Q2 “Dawn camera set in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, Seal. The partnership draws a connection between Seal’s soulful lyrics and the human connection in the art of photography, “shining light on the subjects of a frame – while painting unique perspectives for artists behind the lens.”
Inspired by the Japanese term “komorebi,” which describes the interplay of light from sunlight seeping through a tree canopy, the camera exteriors are covered in a special weave consisting of black polyester thread and gold-colored washi paper courtesy of the specialists at Hosoo. The distinct kimono fabrics ensure that each of the 500 cameras are one-of-a-kind.
Accompanying rope straps are decorated with the handwritten lyrics, “you became the light on the dark side of me” from Seal’s popular track “Kiss from a Rose,” and a limited-edition Rag & Bone scarf designed by multimedia artist Annina Roescheisen arrives in similar motifs. Other aesthetic touches include black Leica logos, Seal’s engraved signature, and visible edition numbering. Technical details of the Q2 include a 47.3 megapixel, full-format sensor and fast Leica Summilux 28 f/1.7 ASPH. lens.
The Leica Q2 “Dawn” by Seal is now available online and at Leica stores for $5,995 USD.
