Sunday’s NBA match between the Detroit Pistons and the Los Angeles Lakers has resulted in a flagrant foul 2 — unnecessary and excessive contact committed by a player against an opponent — and ejection for LeBron James, two technical fouls and an ejection for Isaiah Stewart, and a technical foul for Russell Westbrook.
This is just James’ second ejection in his 19-year career. The altercation between James and Stewart ignited when James struck Stewart in the face leaving the corner of his eye bloody — according to the team, this required five stitches. Reacting to the hit, a furious Stewart charged over to James where a potential fight almost broke out.
With most of the team on the court separating the two, Stewart broke free several times in an attempt to chase down LeBron and even Westbrook. Westbrook’s technical foul was a result of him being “an escalator and not a peace maker.” During the incident, the staff could be heard over the PA system telling fans to stay in their seats for fear of another Malice at the Palace incident.
The Lakers went on to win the game 121 – 116 over the Detroit Pistons.
