This past weekend, a major leak for Grand Theft Auto VI made its way onto the Internet, offering a first look at the gameplay for the upcoming title. The early footage of the next installment in Rockstar Games‘ Grand Theft Auto series came from “teapotuberhacker” who uploaded 90 videos taken from a test build of Grand Theft Auto VI to GTAForums.
The videos show two playable protagonists, a female named Lucia and a male riding in the Vice City Metro. The appearance of the Vice City Metro reveals a return to Vice City, a fictionalized version of Miami.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier tweeted, “Not that there was much doubt, but I’ve confirmed with Rockstar sources that this weekend’s massive Grand Theft Auto VI leak is indeed real. The footage is early and unfinished, of course.” Adding, “This is one of the biggest leaks in video game history and a nightmare for Rockstar Games.”
It is also interesting to note, teapotuberhacker claims that they were behind the recent Uber hack and obtained the test built after gaining access to a Rockstar employee’s Slack account. Noting that they may upload additional leaks including the source code and assets for GTA V and GTA VI, along with the test built itself.
