Lana Del Rey Drops Opening Track "The Grants" From Forthcoming Album

Lana Del Rey on Tuesday surprise-dropped ‘The Grants,” the opening track from her forthcoming record, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. The song, named after the singer’s family, shines a spotlight on a few of music’s most prominent background singers.

The track begins with backing vocals from Melodye Perry, Pattie Howard and Shikena Jones, each of whom was featured in the documentary 20 Feet from Stardom. Together, they introduce the chorus to Del Rey’s latest cut after an instructor says, “One more time, you ready?”

Del Rey then takes the mic, singing to a love interest about staying together forever. “Do you think about heaven? Do you think about me?” she vocalizes. “My pastor told me, ‘When you leave, all you take is your memories. And I’m gonna take mine of you with me.”

As the song progresses, the bridge sees Del Rey wish to be with her family for eternity, as well. “My sister’s first-born child, I’m gonna take that too with me,” she sings. “My grandmother’s last smile, I’m gonna take that too with me. It’s a beautiful life. Remember that too for me.”

Lana Del Rey’s new album Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd is due for release on March 24 via Interscope and Polydor Records. Stream “The Grants” everywhere now.

In more music news, Kid Cudi revealed that he has already written a few chapters of his memoir.
