In continuation of a 20-year-long partnership, Lamborghini has provided the Italian State Police with a utility-equipped Urus Performante or Urus S — sporting a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine that produces over 650 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.
The handover ceremony took place at Piazza del Viminale, with Stephan Winkelmann, the Chairman and CEO of Lamborghini, presenting the keys to the Head of Police, Vittorio Pisani.
This latest addition marks the sixth Lamborghini model to join the Highway Police fleet since the collaboration began in 2004 and while high-speed pursuits might be the first thing that comes to mind, Lamborghini expressed that the vehicle will most likely play a role in various special operations. These operations could include the transportation of medical organs and plasma or other time-sensitive services that work to save lives.
Outfitted by Lamborghini technicians, the Urus Performante has been tailored to meet the specific needs of the police. It sports a distinctive blue and white livery, designed by Lamborghini Centro Stile, adorned with tricolor bands and police logos. Additionally, a roof-mounted 360° blue LED light bar and two-tone siren provide visibility and authority.
The interior of the Super SUV, dressed in all black, features an armored weapon box, a message display and a special compartment equipped with a defibrillator for first aid. Most notably, the Urus includes a portable fridge for organ transport, complete with a display and data logger for monitoring internal temperature.
As a result of the Urus Performante’s twin-turbo V8 engine, the SUV can accelerate from 0-6- mph in just over 3 seconds. It’s also been proven to be a capable vehicle, not only by its statistics but through its accomplishment of achieving the best time for a production SUV at the renowned Pikes Peak Hillclimb in 2022.
“It is with great pleasure that we are continuing our twenty-year co-operation with the Italian State Police,” said Winkelmann, adding “Knowing that our cars are used for public duties and, above all, for crucial operations to save human lives, can only make me and the whole company proud. These initiatives, which bring us great satisfaction, demonstrate our innate close ties with Italy.”
