Earlier in the week, Disco was locked in a tight race with Little Mix’s Confetti (RCA). In the end, Kylie’s album blew away the competition with 55,000 chart sales, the biggest opening week of 2020 so far. That sum includes 13,500 copies sold on vinyl, the Official Charts Company reports.
It’s Kylie’s biggest opening week in 10 years, since 2010’s Aphrodite, and it places the Melburnian in a league of her own.
Minogue is the first female artist to score a No. 1 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart in five consecutive decades (the ‘80s, ‘90s, ‘00s, ‘10s and ‘20s.)
Little Mix come in at No. 2 with Confetti, the most-streamed album of the cycle. It’s the pop group’s sixth consecutive Top 5 LP.
There’s another record-setter in the upper tier of the chart as Shirley Bassey’s final album I Owe It All To You (Decca) starts at No. 5. According to the OCC, Bassey becomes the first female artist to claim a Top 40 album in seven consecutive decades, a feat that dates back to her first entry in 1961 with Fabulous Shirley Bassey, peaking at No. 12.
