Ahead of the opening of a 40th-anniversary exhibition in Tokyo, a new anime for Kinnikuman has now been announced. The announcement came with a visual showing Kinnikuman (Suguru Kinniku) offering a “Guts Pose” under a spotlight, signaling his return.
Created by the manga creator duo known as Yudetamago, the wrestling manga which started in 1979 spurred a popular anime series in 1983, followed by films and other media. The series even made its way to North America under the name Ultimate Muscle: The Kinnikuman Legacy, introducing the over-the-top action to a new audience.
No official release info has been shared for the upcoming new anime series, but it is expected to arrive this year to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original television anime. The anniversary exhibition will be open from March 18-April 2 at Tokyo’s famed Tokyo Tower.
