Killer Mike Performs “Exit 9” on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’

Killer Mike Performs "Exit 9" on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert'

Killer Mike followed up his recent Grammy Awards sweep – bringing home the W’s for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance – with an enamoring live performance. The rapper hit up Stephen Colbert‘s The Late Show to deliver a stripped-down performance of Michael track “Exit 9.”

“I dedicate this to my grandmother Betty,” Mike prefaces. Joined by his choir The Midnight Revival and DJ Trackstar, the rapper offers an intimate delivery of the cut, which, on the album, features vocals from Blxst as well. For this performance, it’s just Mike – seated on a stool center stage – and the five-person choir.

“My campaign for champagne could’ve ended with my murder / Miss Betty say, ‘If you ain’t saved in Jesus name, it’s worse,’ / I had to be my own boss, not somebody else’s worker / I know the prayer she prayed for me still served as my preserver,” he delivers towards the end of the song, fully a capella, accompanied by just the choir’s backing vocals.
