Japanese psych-rockers Kikagaku Moyo have detailed their final album. Kumoyo Island will arrive May 6 via the band’s own Guruguru Brain before Kikagaku Moyo go on an indefinite hiatus. Today, the group has shared Kumoyo Island’s lead single, “Cardboard Pile,” along with a trippy visual created by Katsushika Shusshin. Check it out below and scroll down for the LP art and tracklist.
Kikagaku Moyo announced their indefinite hiatus recently on Instagram. “After much discussion between the five of us at the end of last year, we have decided to go on an indefinite hiatus after 2022,” they wrote. They also announced a farewell tour that will wrap up in the autumn.
Kumoyo Island marks the band’s fifth studio album. It was recorded at Tsubame Studios in Asakusabashi, Tokyo, where Kikagaku Moyo laid down their earliest material. The group formed roughly a decade ago, issuing its debut, self-titled LP in 2013. Last year, Kikagaku Moyo released Deep Fried Grandeur, a live album recorded with Ryley Walker. The band’s most recent studio LP was 2018’s Masana Temples.
