Kevin Feige Says Bringing back Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Is Proof That Robert Downey Jr. Could Return as Iron Man if Done Right

In a recent interview with DiscussingFilm, Kevin Feige spoke about the return of Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine film. To fans’ surprise, he brought up how it potentially leaves an opening for the return of Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man to the MCU or even the Chris EvansCaptain America.

Feige said on the Downey and Evans’ comeback, “That’s the key, right? How do you do it in a way that maintains what has come before, and in a great way? And we’ve been spending, you know, the last two-plus years figuring that out for Wolverine. So, what’s to come? We’ll see. We’re just proud that we, I think, have figured it out for Wolverine. I think Hugh’s appearance and starring role in [Deadpool & Wolverine] is a great sign that it can be done — if great care is taken.” Both Downey and Evans left the franchise following 2019’s Avengers: Endgame which saw the death of Iron Man. Similarly, Wolverine’s death was captured on screen in 2017 and has now been brought back to the Deadpool universe. In a past Vanity Fair interview, Feige assured that just like Jackman in Logan, he doesn’t want to mess with Downey’s exit in Avengers: Endgame.

It remains to be seen if this will stay true down the line. Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26.
