The team behind Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and VP nominee Kamala Harris’ 2020 campaign launched the Team Joe Sings online concert series on Thursday (Sept. 17).
Kesha, Anthony Hamilton, Los Lobos, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service, Harlem Gospel Travelers and MisterWives make up the first group of artists to perform one to two songs virtually in support of the Biden for President campaign. Performances will be uploaded onto the acts’ respective YouTube channels at 8 p.m. ET, starting tonight and occurring every Thursday until the Nov. 3 election.
“We need change and we need it now. Our current president has proven over and over that he lacks basic empathy and honesty,” Kesha said in a press statement. “I love this country and I think we deserve better. In our Declaration of Independence it says ‘all men are created equal’ it was a nice start, but now we know we need to give all people equal rights, protection, and opportunity no matter what they look like or who they love. I believe Joe Biden and Kamala Harris can help us win this fight for equality.”
Gibbard previously posted his performance of Death Cab for Cutie’s “Northern Lights” and The Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights” on Aug. 19 during the Democratic National Convention, the latter of which he appropriately dedicated to the United States Postal Service.
“I lived in Seattle, my bandmate Jimmy Tamborello lived in Los Angeles. And we made a record using the United States Postal Service, and therefore, we called ourselves The Postal Service,” he recalled during his set. “And I think in the midst of this global pandemic, nothing is more important than being able to vote safely and securely. And vote-by-mail has been shown to be that over and over and over again.”
