Helen Mirren plays Kendrick Lamar’s therapist in the new visual for “Count Me Out.” Lamar directed and executive produced the video alongside his pgLang collaborator Dave Free.
“Kendrick, Kendrick,” Mirren says to Lamar. “Did you hear what I just said?”
The rapper, meanwhile, sits at the piano bench with his head in his hands, before he turns around to resume his therapy session. After a bit of banter between Mirren and Lamar, the video cuts to a montage of footage showing snaps of his of daily life, from laughing with friends to signing contracts.
Interspersed is Lamar performing in front of a crowd as a messiah-like figure in the desert. The horde, entirely decked out in white, carries Lamar above their heads before gently resting him on the ground.
The visual was choreographed by Charm La’Donna, with stunts conceived by Chris Gann.
“Count Me Out” is the latest Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers cut to get the video treatment. Last month, Lamar shared an experimental, dance-heavy visual for “Rich Spirit.”
