Kendrick Lamar Leads BET Hip Hop Awards With 6 Trophies

Kendrick Lamar led the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards on Tuesday evening, winning six categories, including artist of the year and album of the year for Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Additionally, the chart-topper took home lyricist of the year, best live performer, best hip hop video for “Family Ties” with Baby Keem and director of the year with Dave Free.

Notably, this year’s awards marked Lamar’s third win for hip hop album of the year, tying T.I. and Jay-Z for the most wins in that category. It was also his eighth win for lyricist of the year (the most anyone has won in the history of the show), third for best hip hop video and best live performer; and second for hip hop artist of the year.

Elsewhere, Drake won three awards, including best collaboration for “Wait For U” with Future and Tems. Drizzy tied with himself in the best featured verse category for his contributions to “Wait For U” and Jack Harlow‘s “Churchill Downs.”

Latto claimed song of the year for “Big Energy,” which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Lizzo‘s “About Damn Time” won impact track, an award given to a track that “moves our culture forward with social commentary, political discourse or other thought-provoking lyrics.”

The ceremony, which was filmed on Friday, September 30, at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Centre, premiered on Tuesday on BET, BET Her, MTV2 and VH1. Head to BET’s website to see the full list of winners.
