Kendrick Lamar has unveiled a music video for his Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers single, “Rich Spirit.”
The visual opens with Lamar, who wears an all-red outfit, staring longingly through a glass window, the majority of which is covered by a heavy curtain. The rapper quickly turns away from the crack of light to kneel on the edge of his bed in prayer.
As the video progresses, Lamar dives into an awkward routine of jerky, dramatic movement, a recurring concept across his ‘Mr. Morale’ music videos and live performances. In a later dance sequence, his discomfort is palpable as he’s forced to watch himself move in a room of mirrors.
“The morality can wait / Feedback on low latency,” he raps in one verse. “I’m glitching from the face as my thoughts grow sacredly.”
The highly-anticipated Mr. Morale dropped in May as Lamar’s first album in five years and fifth studio LP overall. It’s also the rapper’s final album under Top Dawg Entertainment, as he’s fulfilled his contract with the label. Moving forward, he’ll likely put out any future music solely under his own imprint, pgLang.
In tandem with his announcement of the project earlier this year, Lamar shared a music video for the project’s first single, “The Heart Part 5.” He returned with a video for “N95” the day after the album’s release.
