Kanye West is no longer buying Parler. “In response to numerous media inquiries, Parlement Technologies would like to confirm that the company has mutually agreed with Ye to terminate the intent of sale of Parler,” the social media service announced. “This decision was made in the interest of both parties in mid-November.”
West, whose legal name is Ye, and Parlement Technologies announced the agreement in October, with West remarking, “In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves.” (Parler, which arose in the wake of Trumpism, brands itself as a free-speech haven, railing against censorship on mainstream social media.)
The initial announcement came at a time when West was locked out of his Twitter and Instagram accounts due to a spate of antisemitic posts and public statements. He has since regained access to his Twitter account and continued to make antisemitic remarks publicly.
West has lately surrounded himself with the far-right figures Milo Yiannopoulos and Nicholas J. Fuentes. He recently brought Fuentes—a white nationalist, antisemite, and Holocaust denier—with him to a meeting with former President Donald J. Trump at Mar-a-Lago. And, earlier today, Fuentes joined West on Alex Jones’ InfoWars, where the rapper made a number of disturbing and hateful remarks while praising Adolf Hitler and Nazis.
