Kanye West has seemingly acknowledged a report that he recently relapsed and is regularly inhaling nitrous oxide.
On Thursday, the New York Post reported, citing multiple sources, that West began using nitrous oxide again in late January following a dental procedure. Those close to him believe it may partially explain his recent volatile behavior, which included an appearance at the 2025 Grammy Awards alongside his nearly-naked ex-wife (?), Bianca Censori, where he allegedly sought to confront Taylor Swift, as well as his barrage of racist, antisemitic, and misogynistic messages on social media.
West shared the story on his X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday night. He also quote-tweeted a follower who wrote, “Put the nitrous in the bag,” with three laughing emojis.
The 47-year-old rapper allegedly first began abusing nitrous oxide in early 2024. In November, his former chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulous, came forward with allegations that West’s dentist had been supplying him with the drug for recreational purposes, which left him “no longer capable of successfully releasing music or clothing.”

West was apparently able to quit nitrous oxide for six months after moving to Japan, but allegedly relapsed after returning to the US. A source told the Post that as a result of his drug use, “His memory is so messed up,” adding, “You can kind of just convince [West] of things and he doesn’t really fact-check them. You can just say something that is not true, but if you say it with enough conviction at the right time, he’ll believe it.”
