Joy Orbison Goes Back in Time With Surprise Release ‘archive 09-10’

Joy Orbison Goes Back in Time With Surprise Release 'archive 09-10'

Joy Orbison — a British producer who’s been shaping and redefining dance music since his teens — has released a pack of five of his “most sought-after” tracks from the archive, dating back more than a decade to 2009-10.

Titling his just-released EP archive 09-10, the project is a five-track compilation landing digitally for the first time via TOSS PORTAL, Joy Orbison’s self-run label.

The drop features hit records from the past; “tentative bidding demo,” “smother demo,” “ladywell,” “em & aitch,” and “gr etiquette,” which were produced between 2009 and 2010, around the same time as his breakout single, “Hyph Mngo.”

Additionally, Orbison released “GR Etiquette (‘09 Mix),” in March 2020 temporarily through Bandcamp, with all money raised donated to Southwark food bank.

Commenting on the release of his new project, Joy Orbison said: “These pictures were taken around the time my first single “Hyph Mngo” was released. I was a post boy for a music publisher in Soho at the time.

“I had mucked about on Fruity Loops and Cubase for years but I think this was the first time I had a bit of a direction or sound. My only goal was to get one of my tracks played on Hessle Audio’s Sub FM show, that was literally it.

“Thank you to everyone who’s ever asked me about this music or run it up on YouTube. Today I turned 37 and was 21 when “Hyph” came out, I can honestly say I had no idea that would be the start of a “career” that even now I still feel in the early stages of.”

You can check out a highlight from archive 09-10 above and the project is available to stream in its entirety below.
