Jorja Smith‘s sophomore studio effort, falling or flying, is here.
Clocking in at approximately 45 minutes, the 16-track album features guest verses from J Hus on “Feelings” and Lila Iké on “Greatest Gift” and hears Smith dive into the duality of her self-confidence and insecurity. Her work with production duo DAMEDAME* delivered a variety of sounds for the record, ranging from R&B to UKF and even alternative, but through it all she remains very much in control — kind of like how she’s in control of herself regardless of whether she’s feeling her best or feeling her lowest.
“I feel like making the album brought me back home,” she said in a statement. “Where you’re from is where you get your powers, and that’s why I’m so grateful I could make this with DAMEDAME* – they still have their roots in the ground from back home. And we had so much fun making this.”
“I like this world that I’ve just come into. And I’m still figuring things out. Always figuring things out,” Smith added. “This is the first time I’m putting stuff out there that I can connect with right now.”
