After showing out on Childish Gambino‘s Bando Stone & The New World – contributing vocals on standout cut “In The Night” alongside Amaarae – Jorja Smith has lifted the curtain on her first new solo release of the year so far. Entitled “High,” Smith’s new single is a hopeful yet introspective one, and also marks the first studio release from the songstress since her falling or flying album from last September, which she then presented a reimagined edition of in May.
“‘High’ is a song I wrote about finding a friend within myself, even through the lows, you have to find the highs,” Smith explained of the summer single in a statement.
Carried by a house-infused melody, “High” sees production from Smith’s longtime collaborators DAMEDAME*. “Cause where’d you run if you can’t? / I wanna grow but I don’t wanna trip / So what?” she ponders on the pre-chorus.
The track also arrives with a visualizer – a compilation of candid footage from Jorja and fans – directed by Smith herself and Ivor Lawson-Adamah. Check it out in the gallery above and stream “High” on Spotify and Apple Music now.
