Joni Mitchell Announces New Asylum Albums (1972-1975) Box Set

Joni Mitchell has announced the latest installment in her archival series. The Asylum Albums (1972-1975) features remastered versions of For the Roses (1972), Court and Spark (1974), the double live album Miles of Aisles (1974), and The Hissing of Summer Lawns (1975). The albums were each remastered by Bernie Grundman. The Asylum Albums (1972-1975) is out September 23. Listen to a remastered version of “You Turn Me On I’m a Radio” (off For the Roses) below.

Mitchell joined Asylum Records in 1972 after working with Reprise Records. Her final studio album with Asylum would be 1979’s Mingus, her collaboration with jazz legend Charles Mingus. The new collection is the third installment of the Mitchell archival series, following Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967) and Vol. 2: The Reprise Years (1968-1971).

This past weekend, Mitchell made a surprise appearance at the Newport Folk Festival, marking her first full live performance in years. She joined Brandi Carlile for covers of Mitchell classics including “A Case of You” and “Both Sides Now.” Mitchell also played the guitar solo from “Just Like This Train.” In a subsequent interview, she told CBS Mornings that she relearned to play guitar after a  2015 brain aneurysm by watching “videos on the net.”
