John Oliver has poked fun at Disney’s expense by posing next to a Mickey Mouse knock-off in a new promo for the returning Last Week Tonight.
“We’re back February 18th, and we’re pretty sure this was an okay way to let you know about it!! Ya, probably fine,” reads a tweet teasing the next season of the show. Meanwhile, the accompanying poster says, “What are they gonna do, sue?”
The parody comes after the original iteration of Mickey Mouse from 1928’s Steamboat Willie entered the public domain at the top of 2024. Shortly afterward, several projects were announced that put their spin on the character, including a slasher film called Mickey’s Mouse Trap, an untitled horror-comedy from Steven LaMorte, and a video game called Infestation: Origins.
