Jamaican-American singer Jesse Boykins III has been blending genres throughout his career, with an accomplished discography spanning R&B, soul, jazz and electronic.
On his new song, Go With The Feeling,” Boykins III lends his voice to dancehall, the genre that emerged in Jamaica in the 1970s. Naturally, it’s evolved since then, and the singer brings his own eclectic, contemporary twist to the sound.
“Go With The Feeling” sees Boykins III team up with the producers Wynne Bennet and NAZ. It also offers fans another look into his forthcoming album, New Growth, slated for release on October 20.
The singer describes the single as being inspired by “the laws of attraction and how it is in our nature to want to have what is familiar and comfortable but still want to feel spontaneous and desired.”
“When Wynne and I started the sonic direction, it felt like a journey and was very free-flowing,” he shares. “ Once we felt the rhythms and soundscapes become one, it became apparent to me that it’s a blend of three things – an indie approach to recording, dancehall and basement influences, and this refreshing arrangement – that brings it all together.”
