Jesse Armstrong Addresses Possibility of 'Succession' Spinoff

Jesse Armstrong isn’t completely shutting down the idea of a Succession spinoff.

In a recent interview with the Guardian, the series creator addressed the possibility of one day going back to the beloved HBO show, which he revealed was ending with its upcoming fourth season. “I do think that this succession story that we were telling is complete,” Armstrong said. “This is the muscular season to exhaust all our reserves of interest, and I think there’s some pain in all these characters that’s really strong. But the feeling that there could be something else in an allied world, or allied characters, or some of the same characters – that’s also strong in me. I have caveated the end of the show, when I’ve talked to some of my collaborators, like: Maybe there’s another part of this world we could come back to, if there was an appetite?”

While Armstrong himself seems keen on eventually revisiting the Roys, HBO CEO Casey Bloys explained that it seems out of the show’s realm to focus on just one character. “It doesn’t seem to me that there’s something in Succession where you would go, ‘Let’s follow just this kid’ or whatever,’” he told Variety.

Succession season four will answer several questions left unanswered in its previous season, including the future of Waystar Royco and the acquisition by Lukas Matsson, and possibly who will succeed Logan Roy as the company’s CEO — if it survives the acquisition at all.

Succession season four premieres March 26 on HBO.
