Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck has died at 78 years old.
The family of the revered Surrey-born musician announced the news on social media: “On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing. After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”
Beck kicked off his career in the ’60s, replacing Eric Clapton in the Yardbirds and going on to form the Jeff Beck Group and Beck, Bogert & Appice. He is commonly regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all time; he was an eight-time GRAMMY winner and two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, once as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992 and again as a solo artist in 2009. He released a total of 11 studio albums and four collaborative albums in his lifetime, the last one being 18 with Johnny Depp in July 2022.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Cash, who he married in 2005.
