As the saying goes, freedom ain’t free. In order to honor those who serve, including those servicemen and servicewomen who’ve paid the ultimate sacrifice, Jeep is rolling out Freedom Editions of every truck and SUV in its lineup. But this is no mere flag-waving sticker and badge package—okay, it is. That said, Jeep will donate $250 to the United Service Organizations (USO) for every Freedom Edition model it sells.
The Jeep brand is, of course, inextricably linked forever with the American military thanks to the original Willys that helped defeat tyranny and evil in the 1940s. Today’s Wrangler owes a great deal of its appeal to that skinny-tired, open-topped war machine. It is one of the reasons the Jeep brand is so widely known globally. So, naturally, the Wrangler has offered a Freedom Edition for some time now. For 2021, this package has been amplified to include a military-style “Oscar Mike” star graphic on the hood and tailgate, joining the existing American flag motif on the front fenders and dark-finished wheels.
For 2021, the Wrangler‘s Freedom Edition treatment (minus the tailgate graphic) is being made available on the rest of the Jeep lineup. Almost every Jeep model enjoys an embarrassingly large number of trim levels, so what’s one more? This means buyers can now opt for the Freedom Edition on the 2021 Renegade, Compass, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, and Gladiator pickup. It does not appear as though the Freedom package has reached the all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, the three-row version of the next-generation Grand Cherokee that goes on sale soon. At least, not yet. In a further nod to the troops, active and recently retired service members are eligible for a $500 incentive on every Jeep model.
