Tyler, the Creator recently revealed that he and Odd Future could have been signed to JAY-Z‘s Roc Nation.
In a recent appearance on DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz podcast, he briefly touched on the meeting and why he eventually decided to turn Hov down. “[JAY-Z] invited us to one of his LA homes and we just ate tacos,” Tyler said. “We ate some tacos and he wanted to sign us. I was like ‘Man you’re cool, but no.’”
The CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST artist added, “Him, Puff — a lot of people were interested. I don’t know, I just want creative control and I do everything.”
Although the deal didn’t turn out the way JAY-Z wanted, he and Tyler would go on to have a supportive friendship. In 2021, Tyler even listed his top six JAY-Z songs in celebration of Hov’s 52nd birthday.
Elsewhere in music, A$AP Rocky teased unreleased Don’t Be Dumb tracks during his Rolling Loud Miami set.
