Jay Rock Says a TDE Compilation Album Is in the Works for 2024

Jay Rock’s influence on hip-hop spans decades, as does his fellow Top Dawg Entertainment signees. The Los Angeles-hailing rapper signed to TDE in 2005 and in 2011, shifted to Strange Music, a joint label founded by Tech N9ne in partnership with TDE.

He also co-founded the hip-hop supergroup Black Hippy, which consisted wholly of TDE talent, with Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q.

A decade and a half after the group’s formation, Rock has teased that a TDE compilation album will be arriving sometime soon. In a recent interview with the Associated Press, he said the LP is expected to drop at the beginning of 2024.

“It’s been 20 years since TDE been in the game. So we are putting together a compilation album, so we should be dropping that at the top of the year,” he revealed. “I don’t know how many songs we’re going to put on there, but we got a majority of Black Hippy on that thing.”

While the members of Black Hippy frequently collaborated with one another, they never released a formal EP or album.

Earlier this year, CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith had teased the group’s reunion, tweeting that they “owe y’all an album or EP.”
