Jared Leto will be starring in the third installment of Tron: Ares, an upcoming live-action film from Disney. The franchise began with the eponymous Tron film in 1982, followed by 2010’s Tron: Legacy.
Tron: Ares was first announced in 2010 but encountered multiple roadblocks on the way to production. It wasn’t until 2017 that Leto was signed on to the film, portraying a new character named Ares. And just earlier this month, it was confirmed that director Garth Davis had left the project and would be replaced by Joachim Rønning.
Leto will double as a producer on Tron: Ares, alongside Justin Springer, Jeffrey Silver and Emma Ludbrook. A script was written by Jesse Wigutow.
Norwegian director Rønning has been building a relationship with Disney over the past few years. Most recently, he directed 2019’s Maleficent sequel for the studio, along with the 2017 Pirates of the Caribbean flick, Dead Men Tell No Tales.
