In May, Janelle Monáe shared the age-restricted music video for “Lipstick Lover,” a track off her then-forthcoming album The Age of Pleasure. Now that the LP is out in full, the singer has returned with another video, this time, for the track “Water Slide.”
A sensual, summertime song, “Water Slide” is one of Monáe’s collaborations – of which there are two – with the influential Jamaican dancehall DJ Sister Nancy. For the track, the two sampled Nancy’s original song “Bam Bam.”
Co-directed by Monáe and Alan Ferguson, the music video matches the upbeat energy of “Water Slide.” Surrounded by her squad of women, Monáe performs at a pool party and delivers some sharp dance moves, joined by a backup crew.
Next month, she’ll kick off her North American tour for The Age of Pleasure, beginning on August 30 at Seattle, Washington’s WAMU Theater. Ensuing stops include Atlanta, Chicago, Manhattan, Brooklyn and more.
