Aquaman director James Wan has now confirmed previous rumors that the upcoming sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is being delayed. Announcing the news over on Instagram, Wan revealed that the new release date for the film will now be on Christmas day of 2023, and while there hasn’t been confirmation yet elsewhere, rumors are also suggesting that Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be taking over its previous premiere date of March 17, 2023.
While it’s no doubt disappointing for fans of the DCEU to learn of the delays, Wan did offer a new look at some of the sequel’s concept art as consolation, posting illustrations of fantastical forests and mountain ranges as well as big-scale battles and underwater conflicts. “Here is a small glimpse of some artwork into the big, epic world-building we’re creating, and I need the time to do it right,” Wan wrote in the caption. “These images barely scratch the surface of this movie (haven’t even shown the weird and wonderful characters and creatures of this world yet). I can’t wait to show you, but you have to wait just a little bit longer.”
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will now arrive on December 25, 2023.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Spider-Man: No Way Home, The More Fun Stuff Version receives an official poster and trailer.
