James Jarvis Returns to Parco Museum After 22 Years

Acclaimed British artist James Jarvis has touched down in Tokyo through a new solo exhibition at Parco Museum.

Made in collaboration with NANZUKA, Hello Bauhaus presents a series of the artist’s featureless character across a number of large-scale paintings and installations. The Bauhaus school operated in Germany in the first half of the 20th Century and is long revered for approaching function and rationality as an art form. Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky and Josef Albers were amongst the many artists and designers who taught or attended the German school.

Despite its prestige, Jarvis, who characteristically approaches art through humor, parodies the Bauhaus by showcasing his signature mascot in a number of poses inspired by Japan’s “Kawaii” culture.

The exhibition is Jarvis’ first solo show at Parco Museum in 22 years, having first exhibited “World of Pain” in 2000. Accompanying the event are stickers, keychains, tees and more. Hello Bauhaus will be on view in Tokyo until December 5.

Elsewhere, KAWS drops “THE PROMISE” vinyl figure and print.
