James Gunn Shares Update on ‘Peacemaker’ Season Two

Director James Gunn has given fans an official update of the status of Peacemaker season two. The new season sees John Cena reprise his role as the violent vigilante Christopher Smith he portrayed in 2021’s The Suicide Squad. Since its debut on HBO Max in January this year, it has been a major hit amongst fans.

In the first season, Christopher was given his own mission to uncover and stop an alien conspiracy which forced the anti-hero to confront his identity and his past. The ending of the first season saw some surprise cameos from Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller as Aquaman and the Flash, as well as highlighting the cast’s personal journeys. Going into the second season, Gunn has revealed Christopher’s state of mind.

Podcaster Neil Vagg recently took to Twitter to share an excerpt of his interview with Gunn. In the audio clip, Gunn can be heard explaining Peacemaker’s emotional journey as he deciphers his newfound friendships and deals with his father’s looming presence,

“I know what Peacemaker’s emotional journey is, y’know, I know where he is now, I know where he ends up. I mean, we see where he ends up, in some ways he ends up in a good place, he’s been cleared by Adebayo, she sacrificed her own relationship with her mother to clear him. And we see at least the beginnings of a friendship between him and Amelia Harcourt, and a true friendship between him and, y’know, some of the other characters. But we also see his father looms, whether or not he was alive, and whatever that infection is that his father is still there, is very much a part of who he is.”

Season two of Peacemaker is expected to release in mid-January in 2023.

In the same clip, Gunn reveals that he the second season of Peacemaker is not his only project, “We’re still figuring out the plot stuff, and also, frankly, I’m working on another DC thing, and maybe another one, so we got a couple of things that we’re balancing with the stories.”

Elsewhere in entertainment, Christina Ricci joined the cast of Netflix’s Wednesday Addams series.
