Over two years after the end of its first season, James Gunn‘s Peacemaker is officially making a return. The DC Studios co-chairman and co-CEO has taken to Instagram to share a selfie of himself in the reflection of Peacemaker’s signature helmet to announce that the show upcoming season is finally in production.
Captioning the Instagram post, “Day 1 S2,” and including a mermaid emoji, it seems that Gunn is giving a nod to the fans of the show since in the first season Vigilant, played by Freddie Stroma revealed that it was his favorite emoji. To him it meant that it was “happy, sad and everything in between.” Gunn created an directed the first season and is slated to return as such for the second season. The show stars John Cena as the titular character. Following the Season 1 finale, Gunn spoke with Variety and shared, “The most important thing for me in the first season was who Peacemaker was and where was he going. What was his personal journey? The Butterflies and the plot and all of that is secondary to who he was as a character and what his changes were, as well as the other characters and where they began and where they end, because they all have little changes for themselves — with the exception of Vigilante, who’s sort of a straight line the whole time. So I know where Peacemaker starts and where he ends, but I’m playing with other ideas around that and how that’s gonna play out.” It remains to be seen how Season 2 will play out but for now, the teaser picture on Instagram will have to hold fans over.
