Jaden Smith’s second single “D.U.M.B.” from his forthcoming project 2024: A Case Study Of The Long Term Effects Of Young Love has received its own video filmed at the colorful rocks of art monument Salvation Mountain in California.
Though the song clocks out at two-and-a-half minutes, it packs a punch with candid lines about the rapper’s love life and emotional world. In an Instagram post Jaden said “Ive always loved learning but I was never the smartest tool in the shed and if you ever feel D.U.M.B. as you walk the road of life trying to discover yourself, just know you’re not alone cause, she keep looking at me saying ‘Is you dumb?’”
In the new video, like a soldier of love, he wears a camouflage ensemble studded with oversized chrome embellishments as he dances in front a colorful “God is Love” rock edifice. The psychedelic West Coast sensibility combined with an affinity for expressive streetwear is true to Jaden’s aesthetic, a signature quality that comes through in the video.
So far the project, which arrives on October 18, seems to continue the hopeless romantic ethos of Jaden’s previous work in both its title and the content of its leading singles. The first single “Roses” arrived in June, giving fans an early sample of where Jaden’s sound is headed next. “D.U.M.B.” serves as refreshing upbeat follow-up boasting triumphant production and a confident playful tone from the rapper.
