It’s Mark Zuckerberg vs. Elon Musk In the Cage Match Of the Century

It's Mark Zuckerberg vs. Elon Musk In the Cage Match Of the Century

To the delight of their legions of fans and detractors alike, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk have “agreed” to fight each other in a cage match. Musk, 51, recently took to his Twitter account to announce that he was “up for a cage fight” with Zuckerberg, a challenge the Facebook founder quickly “accepted,” sharing a screenshot of Musk’s tweet with “send me location” as a caption.

Musk, whose unquenchable desire to be perceived as funny is well-known, quickly indicated that his statement was meant to be taken as a joke, heading to Twitter again to indicate that his signature fighting move was hefting his bulk on top of his opponent. “I have this great move that I call ‘The Walrus,’ where I just lie on top of my opponent and do nothing,” he said in a follow-up tweet, itself followed by various short videos of walruses. Despite his time in the metaverse, Zuckerberg, 39, actually has a martial arts background: he has been training in MMA for the past 18 months, and recently won a jiu-jitsu tournament. Stamina-wise, he likely has a cardio advantage over Musk as well, recently tweeting that he’d finished a 5K race in under 20 minutes.

Though the two’s back-and-forth banter all appears to be in good fun and they’ll likely never put the gloves on, the sports media landscape is having a field day with the news. Jake Paul quickly expressed his interest in promoting the fight, while BBC reached out to fight journalist Nick Peet for his thoughts on the situation. Peet indicated that UFC president Dana White would be “licking his lips” at the possibility of promoting a bout between the two tech tycoons, and that he though Zuckerberg would have an advantage over Musk in a fight. “[Zuckerberg is] 12 years younger,” Peet noted “He is a lot smaller. I think he’s 5ft 7, Elon’s probably around 6ft. And Elon’s probably got a couple of stone in weight on him. But unfortunately [Elon] has got no training whatsoever.Even though Zuckerberg’s only been training Brazilian jiu-jitsu for 18 months, it wouldn’t be difficult for him to take [Elon’s] back, wrap his arms around his neck and give him a good old cuddle and choke him out!”

Stay tuned to the duo’s Twitter accounts for more good-natured trash talking. In other, more serious, sports news, Victor Wembanyama will make his NBA debut as a Nike athlete.
