Isa Genzken Challenges Sculptural Limits at Galerie Buchholz

Galerie Buchholz presents a new solo exhibition featuring several installations by Isa Genzken in celebration of her newly released self-titled book. On the heels of her 75th birthday, Genzken continues to build on her brilliance, inspiring a new generation with her radical curiosity and immaculate technique. Heralded as one of Germany’s most important and influential contemporary artists, the artist gives us a visual language for life in a commodified world.

The exhibition presents some of the artist’s latest pieces, including Untitled (4 Türme, 3 Stelen), Untitled (Schauspieler), and Vollmond 1997. This foray in scale is chaotic and lyrical at once, probing perceptual awareness through miniature architectural figures and large-scale sculptures. Additionally, she calls on her “Schauspieler (Actors)” series, collapsing urban chaos and historical modernism into the frame of a child mannequin. Together, Genzken brings an opulent ambition into full focus.

With a pioneering approach to found objects, the Genzken puzzles together a new era for assemblage art. Manifesting intuitive observations in three dimensional form, the artist renders fantasy and from everyday unease.

4 Türme, 3 Stelen, Schauspieler und Vollmond will be on view at Galerie Buchholz through October 29, 2024.
