Iron Throne Replica From ‘Game of Thrones’ Sold at $1.49 Million USD

Iron Throne Replica From 'Game of Thrones' Sold at $1.49 Million USD

A replica of the famed Iron Throne from HBO and George R. R. Martin‘s Game of Thrones TV series has sold at auction for a whopping $1.49 million USD over at Heritage Auctions.

Standing at seven feet tall, the original touring Iron Throne is crafted with painted plastic and jewels to recreate the fictional origin of the chair, which was created from swords melted down using dragon breath. The chair was the most expensive item sold over the weekend and was purchased by an anonymous buyer, gaining higher bids than lots like Jon Snow’s Longclaw swords, a Westeros Map Room floor, Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon egg and more.

“From the moment we launched the Game of Thrones auction in September, it was clear this was going to resonate with everyone,” Joe Maddalena, Heritage Auctions’ executive vice president, said in a statement. “These are extraordinary treasures made by Emmy-winning costume designers and prop makers, who worked tirelessly to adapt George R.R. Martin’s wonderful novels.”

“We are so pleased with the result of this auction for some of the most iconic Game of Thrones memorabilia,” added Janet Graham Borba, HBO’s executive vice president of production. “These fans continue to be passionate collectors, and we are grateful to them and our partners at Heritage for making this a giant success.”
