'Inside Out 2' Is the First Animated Film To Hit $1 Billion USD at Global Box Office

Disney Pixar‘s Inside Out 2 has officially crossed the $1 billion USD threshold at the international box office. Becoming one of 12 releases to ever do so, Inside Out 2 has made history as the first animated film to ever surpass the billion dollar mark.

According to Variety, 55 films have been able to gross $1 billion USD globally but only 12 have been been able to hit that benchmark from its international market alone. Although Disney’s 2019 Lion King hit $1.1 billion USD, it was considered a live-action film rather than a computer animated film.

Inside Out 2‘s global success was evident everywhere. In foreign markets, it hit $60.8 million USD in South Korea, $62.6 million USD in France, $72.7 million USD in the U.K., $80 million USD in Brazil and $102.2 million USD in Mexico. Across the board, the sequel was already a huge hit. The sequel is considered the highest-grossing film of the year, raking in $1.649 billion USD globally, including $1.002 billion USD overseas and $646.3 million USD domestically. So far, Disney has had a strong summer of blockbusters, including its success with Deadpool & Wolverine and Alien: Romulus.
