Let’s hope the 2022 Infiniti QX55 is better than this teaser image the Japanese luxury brand released of the upcoming crossover SUV. Because if this picture is representative of the project management that went into developing the QX55, then we have low expectations for Infiniti’s swoopy sibling to the QX50 compact crossover.
Don’t get us wrong. We get this teaser is designed to preview the newest member of the Infiniti model line without giving everything away. But why did Infiniti decide to put a portion of a person in the image, as well? Is there a larger story to tell about this individual? What role does this person play in the QX55’s debut? We don’t know, and frankly, it leaves us with more questions than answers.
Admittedly, we like what little we see of the model in this teaser, which shows off a rear end that appears to combine features from the original Infiniti FX with the brand’s latest design language. We await to see how the crossover’s look holds up as a whole, though.
Expect the QX55 to carry over its boxier QX50 stablemate’s mechanical bits. That includes the model’s trick variable compression ratio turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Whereas the QX50 offers both front- and all-wheel-drive powertrain options, the QX55 may arrive as an all-wheel-drive-only affair given the brand’s decision to highlight the model’s hatch-mounted “AWD” badge. Regardless, expect a continuously variable transmission to serve as the sole means of serving the engine’s power to the crossover’s drive wheels.
We’ll know more about the 2022 Infiniti QX55 as it gets closer to its November 11 debut and early 2021 on-sale date. That said, it’s likely we may never know why Infiniti included some person’s head in this teaser image for its forthcoming model.
