‘In the Heights’ Hits No. 1 on Billboard’s Soundtracks Chart

‘In the Heights’ Hits No. 1 on Billboard’s Soundtracks Chart

The soundtrack album to the movie musical In the Heights jumps 16-1 on Billboard’s Soundtracks chart (dated June 26), following the set’s first full tracking week of activity. It’s the first live-action musical soundtrack to top the chart since The Greatest Showman spent its 34th and (so far) final week at No. 1 on the Sept. 12, 2020-dated list.

In the Heights bumps the Moana animated film soundtrack from No. 1, as it falls to No. 2 after 47 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1. All of the songs on the In the Heights album were written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Miranda also wrote many of the tunes on the Moana album, including the Grammy Award-winning song “How Far I’ll Go.”

Billboard’s Soundtracks chart ranks the most popular soundtracks of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.
