Materski starts her mornings with a large glass of water to hydrate herself and keep her hunger in check.

‘Instead of waking up and going straight to the fridge, have some water first instead. Hydrate yourself,’ she advised, noting that many people think they are hungry when they are actually thirsty.

The trainer likes to have a high-protein breakfast that will keep her full for hours, and she is a fan of eggs as long as they are prepared in a healthy way.

‘If you love eating eggs and bacon for breakfast, you can still eat that for breakfast and lose weight,’ she said. ‘You don’t have to eat oatmeal or chia seed pudding. Just stop cooking your eggs with a bunch of butter and oil.’

Materski also suggests ditching store-bought salad dressing and making your own.

‘Did you ever look at the label of your ranch dressing? You Caesar salad dressing?’ she asked. ‘Those are so easy to make from home with so much less calories. You don’t need all those stupid additives in your life.’

She is a proponent of finding healthy alternatives to your favorite foods.

For example, if she is craving brownies, she will make a version with chickpeas for added protein.

The fitness trainer prioritizes walking over grueling workouts at the gym. She advises walking as much as you can, saying it helped her lose 40 pounds

‘You want pasta? Okay, try zucchini noodles. They literally have high-protein pasta these days,’ she said. ‘You like fried chicken? Try doing it on the barbeque for once, instead. See if that makes you feel better.’

Another change she made that led to big results was prioritizing walking — not killing herself at the gym.

‘I talk about this so much. I’m probably annoying by now, but I don’t care. It literally helped me lose 40 freaking pounds,’ she said.

The health coach advised walking to school, the bus, or the train station. If you have to drive, park farther in the parking lot to make sure you’re getting your steps in.

‘Just try it out,’ she wrote in the caption.

When she started making these changes, she noticed that her clothes fit better, but she didn’t weigh herself for six months.

After losing a total of 40 pounds, she now maintains a weight of 148 pounds, but people often assume she is 20 to 30 pounds lighter because of her toned physique.

‘It’s because of my body and genetics, in a way,’ she explained. ‘But I also have a good amount of muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat, which is why you should not look at the number on the scale.’
