After extending its multi-year partnership with Netflix, Dark Horse Entertainment has announced a new David Leitch-directed spy thriller film, titled Bang!, starring Idris Elba.
Leitch, whose previous work includes Bullet Train and Deadpool 2, will helm the pic based on the comic series by Matt Kindt and Wilfredo Torres. The feature film, written by Kindt and Zak Olkewicz, will follow a terrorist group that attempts to birth the apocalypse with a brainwashing series of novels. As they put their plans into practice, the world’s top spy is tapped to exterminate the evil author behind the scheme.
Bang! is produced by Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg for Dark Horse, Leitch and Kelly McCormick for 87 North and Elba. The film has not yet received a release date at Netflix.
As Dark Horse expands its partnership with Netflix, their production slate also includes a series adaptation of Kindt’s Mind MGMT, with Curtis Gwinn slated to executive produce. Previous Dark Horse titles include the Netflix movie Polar, which stars Mads Mikkelsen, and the Netflix animated series Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles. The streamer most recently joined forces with the production imprint on the third season of The Umbrella Academy, which charted in the Netflix Global Top 10 in TV in 91 countries in its first four weeks, according to Deadline.
Elsewhere, the Joker sequel with Joaquin Phoenix has set an official 2024 premiere date.
