Three new awards will also be presented this year: Warren Buffett will receive the prize for philanthropy, the Black Lives Matter organization co-founders Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi, and Patrisse Cullors will receive the prize for activism, and the Sesame Workshop will receive the prize for culture and education.
Legend will be pulling double-duty that evening by also performing during the awards special, along with Alessia Cara, Carrie Underwood, Common, Gwen Stefani, JoJo and Tori Kelly. Miley Cyrus, Usher, Oprah Winfrey, Nick Jonas, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Katie Couric, Scott Evans, John Oliver and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will be presenting.
The 2020 Global Citizen Prize Awards will broadcast on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. The awards special will replay on MSNBC on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 10 p.m. ET and again on New Year’s Day (Jan. 1, 2021) at 12 a.m. ET.
