Just days before season two of House of the Dragon is set to premiere, HBO has also confirmed the renewal of the series’ third season.
The Game of Thrones spin-off series is co-created by Ryan Condal and the original novels’ author George R.R. Martin. When the first season arrived, the show scored the biggest premiere audience ever of an original series on HBO and Max, with the first season averaging 29 million viewers. Withe the second season on its way, fans can continue to follow the storyline of the Targaryen dynasty in Westeros. Events take place two centuries before the events of GOT and 100 years after the Targaryens united the Seven Kingdoms. Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall and Matthew Needham are all returning for season two. Newcomers for the upcoming season include Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne.
Besides House of the Dragon, HBO is currently working on another prequel titled Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is slated to follow characters Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg. The third season does not have a release date just yet but in a statement regarding the renewal, HBO’s programming and drama series chief Francesca Orsi said, “George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season. We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”
